Something happened just now. And i've been thinking about it ever since.
Yesterday Evening i was watching TV in the room, and i heard the doorbell ringing.
( No one was at home at that time )
I went to see who was at the door, and i saw this indian old man, dressed in a white long 'jippa'. He had this really pleasant looking face.
Thinking that it was some ordinary sales-person who would eventually waste my time, i was about to say sorry i'm not interested. However, i saw him holding a couple of holy books in his hands, and that immediately caught my attention. Besides, he looked so poorthing. I asked him, how can i help u?
And strangely, he went, ' Hare Rama, Hare krishna '. He was from the Krishna Association i think. He was promoting the 'Bhagavadgita'.
( Krishna is one of he main Gods that i pray to, so i was actually kind of captivated by it )
We had this really strange conversation.
Sales-Guy : I'm actually promoting the 'Bhagavadgita'. Can i ask u something?Me : Erm.. Ya sure. Sales-Guy : Who's was the Bhagavadgita Written for?Me : Ermm... ( at this point i actually knew the answer, but was thinking if i was wrong, it would be so embarrasing. )Sales- Guy : C'mon give it a try. I know he's in your house.Me : It was written for Krishna, wasn't it?.Sales-Guy : Exactly. And for that, You WIN this Book.Me : Oh You're giving it to me? How much is it?Sales-guy : Only if you promise to read one page of it a day. Can u do that?Me : I guess i could.Sales- Guy : Good! God Bless u Child. At this point, i wasn't clearly sure of what i was getting myself into.
Then he went on to show me the contents of the book. I gotta admit, the book was really interesting. Cos it had quotes, as well as a sanskrit translation and english one too. It also had the purpose of the quote.
Obviously, all this sounds too good to be true right?
Then i saw my grandmother coming back home, at the corridor.
She immediately started signaling me to not entertain them.
I ignored her! ( LOL hahaha )
Then she started some commotion with the poor old man. He looked so poorthing. He didnt have any bad intentions at all.
Then she took the book from my hand and gave it back to him.
I really felt so bad. After being so nice to me, and taking the effort to explain everything in detail. He was even willing to give me the book for free.
I was , a little pissed off with her. She could have at least ask me what was going on, rather than start a commotion blindly.
When she went into the house, i took the opportunity to apologize to him
Me : I'm extremely sorry. My grandma doesn't seem to be in a very good mood now. Sales- guy : Oh Dont worry about it. Anyway, i understand that u cannot accept this book. But i want to give u a smaller version of this book. And also a photo of Krishna.Me : Oh thank you so much! Please hold on for awhile.( It wouldn't be nice to send him empty-handed right. Although he didn't ask for any money, i still wanted to give him a few dollars. )What a nice old man! I still feel so bad.
The worst part is, after he left, i asked my grandma whats gotten into her.
Grandma : No no, Never believe these sales-persons. They just want to get your money.Me : So what? That book was really nice. And he even wanted to give it to me for free.Grandma : Huh? Free? Are u sure?Me : Yes!Grandma : ( Feeling all stupid and embarrased, she didn't say anything. )I've been thinking of this incident the whole of yest evening. I really dont know why. I just felt a lot of positive energy when i was talking to him. My Grandma had to spoil everything. pfftt
Lesson to be learnt : Dont ever jump to conclusions, without knowing whats happening.
